Bonita Museum is pleased to announce that "Beyond the Border" is included in the World Design Council San Diego/Tijuana 2024 community initiative program.
Bonita Museum and Cultural Center invites the public and plein air artists to submit their plein air paintings created from January to May 2024 for a juried plein air exhibition in June. The Honorable juror, Art Historian, and Lecturer, Jean Stern, will select the plein air paintings for exhibition. We are looking forward to a thriving collaboration of art community and organizations.

The Bonita Historical Society is dedicated to preserve, for public education and enjoyment, the culture, history, art, crafts and
aesthetic facets of the region, specifically, El Rancho de la Nación in South San Diego County.

This show has been juried and curated by the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission. It includes San Diego Plein Air Painters: Brian Belfield, Julie Bradbury-Bennett, Gricelda Brito, Steve Clark, Bess Cheong, Karen Crowell, Tricia De Luna, Joanne Geroe, Jose Nunez, David Peterson, Bianca Romani, Tara Sood, Joyce Trinh and Colleen Veneri.

Enjoy a stroll in Spreckels Park and beautiful Spreckels Reading Room, all on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the opening reception 2:00-4:00PM June 27. Coronado artists Christie Curran and Mary Hale will give painting demonstrations in the library grounds during the event.

If you cannot make it on June 27th, check out the Coronado Public Library website for open hours and take some quiet time in the Spreckels Reading Room, June 27 through September 15, 2021.

Sales of displayed works will support the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission Public Gallery Spaces, including the Spreckels Reading Room. Purchases are to be made directly through the artist. Contact information will be posted by each display.

Come and Celebrate ‘San Diego River Days’ at the Old Mission Dam

The San Diego Plein Air Painters Meetup Group is teaming up with the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF) to celebrate and raise public awareness of the work of the Foundation in restoring natural habitat along the San Diego River watershed. 

Spend a quiet morning capturing the natural beauty of the San Diego River on canvas. Beginner-intermediate artists welcome. You’ll receive tips from local professional and hobbyist painters! Bring your own painting supplies. Please bring water and clothes that can get a bit paint-y.

Optional, recommended items: umbrella, sun protection, and a snack.
Appropriate Ages: Adults and children ages 12+

Bring your kids to the Point Loma Native Plant Garden for a morning of plein air painting. Team up with San Diego Plein Air Meetup Group artists Tricia DeLuna, Jean Petaja & Julie Bradbury-Bennett to create original works depicting scenes from around the garden. 

Stay for a little while or longer... just as you like. This is a free, informal event for those who love both the outdoors and art. Materials will be provided. Finished art will become part of the San Diego River Park Garden-Beautification Project.

Please stop by to see the colorful Exhibit of Sketch Books, Watercolor Paintings and Oil Paintings of scenes from around San Diego by San Diego Urban Sketchers and San Diego Plein Air Painters Meetup Group at a Rancho Penasquitos - Library.  The artwork (more than 36 pieces) is displayed in the mezzanine ramp glass case and on the north and south walls of the mezzanine lounge area, where there are beautiful views looking west to the ocean. The Rancho Penaquitos Library is located close to Hwy 56 on  13330 Salmon River Rd, San Diego, CA  ((858) 538-8159) and is open to the public during regular library hours:
